A true rally legend from the wild 80s

A true rally legend from the wild 80s

After Lancia was awarded as the number one brand with the Lancia Rally 037 Evolution in the WRC in 1983, a worthy successor had to come. The Evolution 2 became a reality and is now being featured on Autogespot for the first time!

With a total score of 118 points, Lancia just managed to beat Audi (116 points), who had great success in the 1980s with the Quattro. The 037 Evolution 2 was even more powerful and was supposed to help the brand win more victories. Unfortunately, it was not enough, as Audi won in 1984, and the all-wheel-drive Peugeot 205 T16 dominated in 1985. It soon became clear that the rear-wheel-drive 037 could not compete with the all-wheel-drive systems, which saw tremendous improvement in the 1980s. As a result, the 037 was retired, and the Delta S4 became the new workhorse for Lancia's rally team.

Nevertheless, it is still very cool to see this rally legend, especially on public roads. Spotter daisje managed to capture this example in Heemstede, earning the Spot of the Day!
